The Crime Branch of Delhi Police busted an inter-state arms racket with the arrest of two members of a gang and seized several firearms late Saturday.

The accused were nabbed from Anand Vihar Railway station with 40 semi-automatic pistols of different calibres.

According to police, the accused have been identified as Deepak Kumar Saha and Sajid.

Their gang has reportedly brought in more than 300 weapons over the past few years.

Both the accused were arrested after the Crime Branch unit of Delhi Police got information that the two would come to Anand Vihar railway station, along with a large cache of arms.

The information further claimed that the weapons would be purchased by a gangster based in Delhi.

Acting on the input, a police team reached the spot and, upon identification of the accused, arrested them.

"When interrogated, it was revealed that gang, headed by Deepak, was involved in illegal trade of weapons since the last 10-11 years.

"They have supplied more than 300-400 sophisticated weapons to various criminal elements, including some gangsters, from Delhi," said a senior official of the Crime Branch.

Speaking about the modus operandi of the gang, the official further said: "To escape the police dragnet, this gang had adopted a unique modus operandi. Members of the gang would collect the consignment of illegal weapons from their sources in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.

"Then they would travel using the train to reach their desired destination in the AC class compartment".

The weapons were to be sold at a price range of Rs 20,000 to Rs 35, 000.
