Two held for printing fake currency notes

Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad police arrested two persons on Monday evening for printing and distributing counterfeit currency notes in the city. Police have also seized the printer they used to print these notes. According to police, the arrested persons were identified as Prashant (28), native of Kavi Nagar area in Ghaziabad and Sunil alias Lefty from Bulandshahr.

Police officials said that the gang was actively producing fake notes from past one year and were running the racket from a rented apartment in Bapudham society of Ghaziabad.

Discussing the modus operandi, a senior police officer said that the gang first used to try few of these fake notes in the market and as if they get successful, they make an agent in the area and supply more notes.

"During sustained interrogations, the arrested persons revealed that Prashant, who used to work as a printing press earlier, came up with the idea to print fake notes. The gang used to print these notes with the printer and fake the wire on original note with the help of sparkle tape or sparkle pen. Recently they had used Rs 5, 000 in the denominations of Rs 200 and Rs 100 notes at a market in Nepal and were planning to supply more notes through an agent," said Rojant Tyagi, station house officer, Kavi Nagar police station.

The officer further said that both the men have been booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) while their accomplice, identified as Amar from Masuri area of Ghaziabad, is at large and efforts are on to trace him.
