New Delhi: Two men who duped a firm dealing with cereals and pulses were nabbed from Haryana, Delhi Police said no Sunday. Cops said that one of the accused were identified as Khalik Rehman and Sunil Kumar, with the latter having many cheating cases against him in three states.
"A woman, who is a partner of the firm, reported that Rehman, a broker introduced her to Sumer Chand, Sunil Kumar and Anil Kumar, who claimed to be partners-cum-directors of SS Exports Pvt Ltd, located in Jalalabad, Punjab. Rehman convinced her to supply paddy to the company of the accused, which was fake," said a police official.
He added that the accused placed an order for paddy worth Rs 1.68 crore. To win the woman's confidence, they paid her Rs 30 lakh as advance.
Eventually, the paddy worth Rs 1.68 crore was delivered to the accused.
Additional DCP (Dwarka) Santosh Kumar Meena, "When the balance amount was not received within the given date, the accused asked the woman to extend the date of payment. They continued doing this a few more times and when the complainant tried to contact Rehman, his phone was found to be switched off."
Sensing something wrong, the woman went to Jalalabad, only to find that the address of the purported company was fake.
She reported the matter to local police and a cheating case was registered.
Soon, cops found that Sunil Kumar was a resident of Fatehbad, Haryana, and raided his house, where he was arrested.
Based on Kumar's revelation, Rehman was found to be hiding in Gohana in Sonepat, Haryana, and he was arrested as well. Two others are at large.
