Gurugram: Another deadly accident occurred in Gurugram, when an SUV being driven on the wrong side crashed with a Maruti Swift car.
The accident occurred at Bristol Chowk underpass between 6 and 6.30 am on Sunday. The underpass serves as a link between DLF Phase-1 and Cyber Green area.
While the driver and a security guard inside the Swift died, a young woman pilot, Suvarna Sripalli Gayatri, working with a private airline, was critically injured and is admitted to a private hospital.
The deceased cab driver was identified as Vinod Yadav, a resident of Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, while the guard was identified as Kishore Yadav, from Bareilly.
A resident of Sector-61 at Golf Course Extension road, Gayatri was on her way to the Delhi airport to report for duty, when she and other employees of her airline met with the accident.
According to Gurugram Police, the collision was so strong that the driver and the security guard – sitting in the front – died on the spot, while Gayatri, riding in the back seat, sustained serious injuries.
The driver of the Mahindra Scorpio SUV fled the spot immediately after the accident and is absconding.
Cops said that the Scorpio was coming from the wrong way on the underpass. They further said that the SUV has a Delhi registration, under the name of one Pradeep Kumar, and had a fake 'Lok Sabha MP' sticker affixed on it.
The accident has, once again, proved the brazen disregard for traffic rules among commuters plying on major routes of Gurugram.
The underpass had been, for long, feared to be prone to accident and it finally came to pass on Sunday
In the past, incidents such as cars overturning after the driver was unable to control the vehicle's speed and bikers losing their life after being hit by a car have been reported.
On an average, eight fatalities and 30 road mishaps occur daily in Gurugram. For a city which sees about 48,000 vehicle registrations each year, deadly accidents continue to be a major challenge for authorities to deal with.
