New Delhi: Delhi Police on Thursday arrested two robbers who came clean on their involvement in Taimoor Nagar murder case on Sunday where activist Rupesh Baisoya was shot dead in front of his children.

Police claimed that Akash and Suraj were arrested in robbery case of Mehrauli registered on October 2 night. During further raids, one more person Ajay Rathi was apprehended.

"During interrogation, Akash and Ajay Rathi confessed their involvement in the theft of Honda city from Bhogal ( Jangpura) and Taimur Nagar murder case also," said DCP (South) Vijay Kumar.

He further added that they are now verifying their claims through CCTV footages recorded during the shooting in Taimur Nagar, and other corroborative evidence in close coordination with south-east district police.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson went to the house of deceased in South East Delhi and met his family. She further tweeted "Issued Notice to Police on cold-blooded murder of activist Rupesh by drugs mafia. Shameful that Police failed to arrest any accused. Drugs trade (against which Rupesh was fighting) continues unabated. Now Rupesh's fight is our fight. Will try our best to rid this area of drugs!".

The notice sent by the women rights' body claimed that the commission on Thursday met the deceased's wife and brother who shared that there was the rampant trade of illegal drugs and liquor in their area and Rupesh used to actively raise voice against these activities. It is learnt that Rupesh and his wife on several occasions approached the local police and had also expressed threat to their lives. The family continues to live in absolute fear and are receiving death threats.

The Commission also inspected the area with the local community and found several men consuming drugs. "When these men were interacted with, they informed that they purchase drugs from jhuggis near Rupesh's home. It is apparent that there is no deterrence to these criminal activities despite the cold-blooded murder of an activist. This is an extremely serious lapse on part of the police. In view of the same, the Commission has set up an enquiry in the matter," the DCW notice mentioned.
