NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Thursday said they have arrested two men for robbing a man and leaving him severely injured in Madangir on January 24.
The accused were identified as Jahid Khan and Madar Khan, both residents of Dakshinpuri in Delhi. On January 24, around 9.30 pm, cops received a PCR call about a robbery at Madangir.
By the time cops reached the spot, the victim Kishan Kumar had already been shifted to AIIMS.
In his statement, Kishan told police that as he was closing his shop and returning home, three unknown men approached him and snatched his bag, which had around Rs 20,000 to 25,000 in cash and the keys of his shop, stabbed him and fled away.
During investigation, cops examined CCTV footage of cameras installed near the crime scene, and soon Jahid and Madar were identified as two of the three culprits.
A few days later, police received a tip-off that two would come to Dakshinpuri to meet their family.
The police team immediately swung into action and laid a trap near Virat Ground in Dakshinpuri, from where both the accused were arrested. A pushbutton knife was recovered from Jahid's possession.
"Accused Madar Khan disclosed that he had earlier been working as a welder in Punjab and was struggling to make ends meet. He wanted to start a business of clothes and had to arrange a large sum. He contacted his brother-in-law Jahid and his old acquaintance Bachchoo, and planned a robbery to earn a quick buck," said DCP (South) Romil Baaniya.
