Tuition teacher's murder: Former student's boyfriend held

NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old engineering student was arrested for the murder of tuition teacher in Mahendra Park in north west Delhi, police said on Friday.

The accused Akash was arrested from his residence in Jahangirpuri, with cops stating he was the boyfriend of a girl who was an former student and girlfriend of the victim Ankit.

During investigation, cops found out that the deceased had recently been harassing the ex-girlfriend to meet him, though they have separated years ago.

This persistence by Ankit was troubling the girl and she confided it to her boyfriend Akash, who decided to eliminate him.

"The accused was not comfortable seeing the deceased talking to his girlfriend as he was possessive about her. In March, he had purchased a desi katta from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh.

"Since then, he had been planning to kill Ankit," said Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) on Friday.

On October 1, Akash decided to execute his plan. He waiting outside Ankit's coaching centre in Mahendra Park, waiting for the right opportunity to strike. As soon as Ankit reached the centre, Akash approached him and shot in the back of the head.

Akash immediately fled the scene of crime, leaving Ankit in a pool of blood.

Initially, Ankit's family had claimed that his long-time girlfriend's elder brother was behind the murder.

They had claimed that the brother was against their relationship as they belonged to different communities.

However, during investigation, police found no evidence of her brothers being involved as he had a solid alibi. Cops then shifted their focus towards other people with whom Ankit had been in contact.

Soon, police zeroed in on a suspect, whose face was captured in the CCTV footage captured near the coaching centre around the time Ankit was murdered.

It was soon established that the person seen in the footage is Akash, seen running in the same area. Police then arrested the accused, who confessed to the crime.
