Three of notorious Tillu gang nabbed after brief gunfight

NEW DELHI: A team of Delhi Police Special Cell arrested three notorious criminals of the Sunil alias Tillu gang in the wee hours of Wednesday, after a brief encounter in north west Delhi's Alipur.

Cops said the arrested men have been identified as Mahesh alias Pravin (25) from Haryana's Sonepat, and Narela residents Manjeet (23) and Nitesh (20). All the accused were involved in the murder of one Arman, a member of the Jitender alias Gogi gang in Narela.

On Tuesday, cops received a tip-off that Manjeet would arrive near the Qutub Garh bus stop in Delhi to meet his associates. A trap was set up and Manjeet was apprehended. A country-made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

Later, based on his revelations, another trap was laid at Hiranki road to nab his associates. There, spotting police presence in the area, the other two accused, who were on a scooty, abandoned the vehicle ran on foot.

While being chased by cops, the accused took out their pistols and fired at the police team. One bullet hit sub-inspector Gopal while another hit assistant sub-inspector Lav Kumar, but both were saved by the bullet-proof jackets they were wearing.

During return fire by cops, Nitish was hit by a bullet in his right leg, and soon he and Mahesh were apprehended unhurt.

"The accused Manjeet, Nitish and Mahesh had joined Tillu gang, while Arman had joined Gogi Gang. All were involved in extortion at behest of their gang leaders," said DCP Special Cell Sanjeev Yadav.
