New Delhi: The online admission portal of Delhi University continued to create problems for applicants on Monday, with many aspirants complaining that they were unable to pay their admission fee online.

Since the varsity made the entire admission process online last year, applicants have no choice put to pay the fee online.

A DU official, requesting anonymity, revealed that the website could not work on Monday morning as around 200 metres of cable wire holding up the server in North Campus was reportedly stolen on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, dean of students welfare and officer on special duty for admissions, said, "As students faced problems in accessing the website, we have extended the last day of admissions for the third cut-off. We will also issue a notification for the same."

For the third cut-off, applicants have until 2 pm Wednesday to pay the fee. Failure to do so will lead to cancellation of admission.

Students who got admission on Monday have also been unable to pay the fee yet.

"I took admission in History (Hons) at Kirori Mal College. But I have been unable to pay the fee. Initially, the fee payment tab was missing, and later, the link said 'principal's approval needed," said Pryata Biswas, a fresher.

He added that it is not the first time that technical glitches left the students in lurch.

Promises of a glitch-free server by DU officials had fallen flat on the first day of admissions itself, after the first cut-off was released on June 19, when many students were unable to download their online registration forms.

Moreover, only a meagre 500 admissions took place, as technical issues plagued the server, said an official. He, however, added that a fourth cut-off list would be released on July 9.

Manohar Chaturvedi, the father of an admission seeker, said, "My daughter had completed her formalities but struggled with the fee payments entire day. When I opened the payment page, there were options for choosing the mode of payment. But when I clicked on it, nothing showed up," he rued.

With more than 50 per cent seats of the varsity's seats occupied in the first and second lists, students who managed to get admission into colleges of their were confused as they could not complete the fee payment.

With most courses closed in popular colleges in North Campus, seats remaing vacant in off campus colleges.

Another students, who came to Gargi College for admission said, "I had a tough time today. First, my father had to scout for a nearby cyber café to download the online registration form. After hours of trying to get that done, the authorities told us to come tomorrow as the servers were not working."
