Gurugram: The Punjab and Haryana High Court will soon decide the fate of ten pubs and bars, after a petition was filed by their owners over the Haryana government canceling their licenses.
The next hearing on the matter is slated for October 31. Till that time, the pubs and bars will be allowed to function.
The licences of twelve pubs and bars, that were recently revoked by the Gurugram administration, will be allowed to continue operations after the owners were able to get a stay order from the court.
The district administration had issued them notices on July 24, revoking their licences for not following certain regualtions.
In its order, the high court directed Gurugram Police to not take any coercive actions till further orders are issued.
The order comes after the petition was filed by owners of these establishments alleging harassment by authorities.
The owners claimed that even though all necessary permissions were obtained from the agencies, there were not allowed to function.
However, residents living along the posh MG road are refusing to budge on the issue of cancellation of licences of pubs and bars, many of which have become a hub of illegal activities.
Recently, hundreds of residents took to the busy streets of Mall Mile to express their anger to the state government and demanded strict action against errant pubs and bars. There is now a possibility that the state government may cancel licences of several nightclubs.
