New Delhi: Investigation in the murder of Rupesh Basoya, who was shot dead in front of his children in Taimoor Nagar last Sunday, has revealed that the arrested accused wanted to flee south Indian states to dodge police.
Investigators claimed that they are going through the criminal records of the two men. On the day of the murder, they had consumed drugs at the crime scene.
On Thursday, Delhi Police arrested robbers Akash and Ajay Rathi, after they came clean on their involvement in the murder case.
Investigators said that after the murder, both accused had planned to escape the national Capital.
"They wanted to go south India so as to dodge the police and stay there for several months," said an investigator.
When asked if the murder was pre-planned, police claimed that so far, investigation does not suggest that it was pre-planned.
Cops further claimed that the accused had came to Taimoor Nagar as they wanted to consume drugs. However, on the day of the murder, they had a fight with another man.
While escaping the area, they were making a ruckus and hurling abuses, which Rupesh had heard. When he objected to it, they shot him in the chest.
After the murder, the next morning saw protests by Rupesh's kin and neighbours, which brought traffic to a standstill in south east Delhi.
Cops were seen giving assurances to the residents that strict action will be taken against drug traffickers in the area, who were initially suspected to be the murders.
Moreover, CCTV footage of the crime scene showed that after Rupesh was shot dead in front of his house and children, passersby shockingly did almost nothing to help Rupesh.
Almost a day after the murder, Delhi Police took strict action by sending the SHO of New Friends Colony police station and the division officer to district police lines. Three beat officers were also suspended.
The move came after the protestors, including family members of the deceased, said that the local police was not doing enough to stop drug trafficking in the area.
