Student crushed to death by bus in Ghaziabad, 1 held

Ghaziabad: A 20-year-old female student was crushed to death by a bus while she was on the way to her college in Kavi Nagar area of Ghaziabad on Monday morning. Police have arrested the bus driver, a few hours after the incident.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Anushka Kaushik, a first year student of BBA at IMS college in Ghaziabad. "The private bus involved in the student was also going to drop students at IMS college," said police.

As per victim's father Umesh Kaushik, Anushka travelled to college by her scooty and had left the house around 7:45 am on Monday.

"We received the information around 8.30 am and we immediately rushed to the hospital and found her dead," said Umesh.

Anil Shahi, Station House Officer of Kavi Nagar police station said that deceased and the bus involved in the incident were going to the same destination.

"The incident occurred around 8 am when the girl was travelling to IMS college in Ghaziabad. A private bus which was also ferrying nearly 30-40 students to same college hit her from behind at NH-9 in Kavi Nagar area and she was crushed under the wheels. A passerby conveyed the information to police and a team rushed to the spot. The victim was taken to a nearby private hospital where she was declared brought dead as she sustained severe head injuries. Police have sent the body for post mortem, reports of which are awaited," said Shahi.

The officer further said that an FIR has been registered into the case and the driver of bus has been arrested by police.

"Upon reaching the spot, police found that the driver of bus has fled away from the spot leaving the bus behind. Police identified the driver after we reach out to the owner of bus through vehicle's registration number. He was arrested nearly four hours after the incident. The accused has been identified as Sajid (30), a resident of Muradnagar. An FIR under section 279 of IPC has been registered against him," added Shahi.
