New Delhi: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday said that a visible effect was seen on the second day of "Swachhta Hi Sewa Abhiyan" in its localities. The Corporation has initiated a number of special sanitation drives taken in various localities such as East of Kailash, New Friends Colony, Defence Colony, Lotus Temple, Humayun Tomb, Zoo, Mangol Puri, Hari Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Ambahari Village, Roshan Pura, etc focusing on removal of garbage from the parks, road crossing footpaths etc.
In a function organized in RK Puram Ward, Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani administered oath of continuing Swachhta activities during all times to come. While stressing upon the need of proper regular Swachhta activities, she stated that sanitation not only help in giving a better image to the locality but also become helpful in containing environment and diseases. From a couple of places extensive cleaning was undertaken by deploying dozens of volunteers; the places are known for accumulation of garbage frequently. The places were decorated with flower pot after their cleaning.
The students from 146 schools joined in awareness rallies in different localities. The students also removed garbage from their school and from its surroundings.
