Short term media courses at IP College for Women from September

New Delhi: Delhi University's Indraprastha College for Women will this session offer an opportunity for students to sharpen their journalistic skills and learn the nitty-gritty of the field through its centre for media skill and training.

The centre, which will open in July, will offer intensive short-term courses on radio jockeying, TV show production and graphic designing.

Students as well as aspiring journalist can enroll for these short-term courses.

The courses will begin after September when the regular admission will be over and their duration will vary from anywhere between six weeks to 3 months.

"The opening of the centre will coincide with 20 years since introduction of the Bachelor of Multi Media and Mass Communication (BMMMC) course. An option for on-demand special courses has been kept open," said Dr Babli Moitra Saraf, Principal, IP College for Women.

She further said that no entrance test will be conducted for admission into these courses, as the students will be granted admission on first-come first serve basis. The batch size will be small with a maximum of 30 students.

"The new centre will be self- financed, and experts and senior journalists from the media industry will be invited to deliver the guest lectures," Dr Saraf added.

The principal added that both male and female candidates can enroll themselves for these courses, as they off slightly off-campus training. The centre will be well equipped with studio space, civil infrastructure, browsing centres, workstations, seminar room and multi-facility hall.

Meanwhile, elaborating on the hostel facilities available to the freshers in the college from this session, Dr Saraf said that out of 450 hostel seats, the option of air-conditioned rooms will be available for 100 seats in one of the two hostels.

Moreover, auto-laundry service will be available in both the hostels, where students can digitally make payments and get their clothes washed.

"We are also planning to introduce a new course BSc (Honours) in Environment Sciences from the next academic session. Our proposal has received a positive response from the University and we hope that after the DU committee inspection, the course can be opened for students," she added.
