NEW DELHI: Delhi police on Saturday placed under suspension the former station house officer (SHO) of New Friends Colony police station Sushil Kumar, who had earlier been sent to district lines after a man was shot dead in Taimoor Nagar last week.
Meanwhile, in the afternoon, a massive mahapanchayat was organised by members of the Gujjar Community, to which the victim Rupesh Basoya belonged, in the same locality.
"Inspector Sushil Kumar, the then SHO of New Friends Colony police station, was suspended from service on Saturday for misconduct and negligence in duty," Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) said.
Last Sunday, 34-year-old Basoya was shot dead by two men in south east Delhi's Taimoor Nagar in New Friends Colony.
CCTV footage from the spot showed the two accused creating a ruckus in the area. When Basoya tried to confront them, one of them shot him in the chest in front of his kids.
Basoya's victim's family claimed he was shot dead by allegedly by drug peddlers, who had a grudge against him.
Basoya's brother Umesh said he had complained about the drug menace in the area to the local police, but did not take any credible action.
Earlier this week, the New Friends Colony SHO had been sent to district lines. Along with him, three beat officers Ajay, Surender and Hari Chand had also been placed under suspension.
"Based on the findings of a vigilance enquiry conducted by Additional DCP (South East) to look into the alleged lapses and negligence by local police in the context of killing of Rupesh and the resultant law and order problem, the then SHO of NFC police station and division officer sub-inspector Rajender have been placed under suspension for misconduct and negligence in duty," Biswal elaborated.
The two accused, Ajay Rathi and Akash, were arrested on October 4 for the murder.
Meanwhile, at the mahapanchayat on Saturday, hundreds of leaders and supporters of the Gujjar community gathered in Taimoor Nagar demanding justice for the deceased and his family.
