NEW DELHI: NEW DELHI: Shaheen Bagh protester might sit in fragments and small groups on the same spot and continue their protest even after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that any gathering – religious, family, social, political or cultural – of over 50 people will not be allowed in the national capital in order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

The women of Shaheen Bagh had decided to continue the protest. The protesters who were sceptical about the idea of a ban on the gathering felt that this might be a tactic to tone down the various Anti-CAA, NRC and NPR protest across the country.

"We might also consider sitting in small groups or fragments but we would continue the protest," said one of the protester.

Shabana Iqbal, a protester from Shaheen Bagh said: "I take this as a government tactic to kill protest across the country. Tourist coming from abroad should be quarantined with precaution rather. We think this is a move to wrap up anti-CAA, NRC protests."

The protesters at Shaheen Bagh which has entered its fourth month now said that they would continue the protest but would take proper health precautions to safeguard themselves from Coronavirus.

Some also said that they might consider sitting in fragments to avoid a gathering of more than 50 but would not back off from the protest.

After the government's decision the women held an emergency meeting at around 7 pm on Monday and decided that they are going to continue with the protest at the same spot with proper precautions.

Shaista Naaz, a protester said: "When the government has not listened to us why should we listen to the government. We will continue the protest as usual.

Hundreds of people mostly women have blocked the arterial Road No 13 A, at Shaheen Bagh since December 16, 2019, to protest the citizenship act and National Register of Citizens (NRC). They have refused to vacate the spot unless CAA is repealed.
