New Delhi: In a bid to maintain tight vigil at various Railway stations in the city, Delhi Police has started a pilot project where they are keeping an eye on the situation at the stations through video calling. The police have made a dedicated team who conduct regular checkings and also brief the senior officers about the situation through video calling on mobile phone.
Meanwhile, the Old Delhi Railway Station, which is under the Northern Railway, has deployed 24 marshals and two supervisors who are there to maintain smooth passage in the station and help the passengers in need.
Police sources told Millennium Post that apart from keeping tab at the stations, senior officers can do special briefing through video calls to the policemen who are there on duty.
"The patrolling team will receive the message instantaneously through the senior officers with the help of video call and the response time will also get better," said the police source. It will also help in maintaining proper law and order situation. The special patrolling team conducts checking and also made sure that no suspicious elements roam around the stations. "If the senior officer is on the round in different areas and at the same time the incident take place at other railway station it will take time for the officer to reach the spot so through video calling the police personnel will be guided by him when he is on the way for the spot," added the source.
A dedicated phone number has been given for the purpose. Joint Commissioner of Police (Transport) Atul Katiyar stated that they have started this project at one railway station. Meanwhile, an official from the Northern Railway stated that at Old Delhi railway station the unarmed traffic marshals will make sure that there should not be any gathering of passengers at the passage of railway stations. The Delhi Police officials claimed that the marshals are helpful for them. "There are some passengers who did not know the exact ticket counters they will help them in reaching there," added the officer.
