New Delhi: Security has been beefed up across the national capital after police received intelligence inputs on a possible terror strike.
Special Cell has also alerted senior officers about a terror input about the possible attacks on Jewish and Israeli communities in India during their holiday season in September and October.
Police sources said that raids are being conducted by the Special Cell of Delhi Police at several locations across the city after the intelligence inputs suggested that three to four members of a terror outfit may have infiltrated into the city. Security at temples and Ramlilas have been heightened.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said security has been heightened in the city for the festive season.
"Delhi Police is also ensuring dynamic picketing with integrated checks with PCR and Traffic Police at vulnerable hotspots to keep a check on the movement of criminals," said DCP Central.
The Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCsP) of all 15 districts have been directed to step up security at vital installations and ensure maximum mobility of police personnel on streets to avoid any such terror strikes.
Sources said that the Special Cell told senior officers that according to an input Al-Qaeda and other terrorist cells affiliated with IS are looking to mount attacks on Israeli targets worldwide. In view of the same, the possible targets in India may include Israeli Embassy in New Delhi, synagogues, Jewish schools, restaurants and hotels frequented by Israeli nationals in New Delhi and other cities.
"It is suggested that appropriate preventive and precautionary measures may be taken at the residences, Israeli/ Jewish institutions and Chabad houses in Delhi to prevent the untoward incident," cell told senior officers.
Sources further added that earlier this year several teams of Special Cell had undertaken the exercise of combing the sensitive areas. During checking on July 1 and 2 several shortcomings have been noticed in various hotels, guest houses, busy markets, taxi stands, parking lots, cyber cafes, PG accommodations, cinema halls, malls.
Last week Delhi Police questioned 37,175 suspects/ruffians, out of whom 5933 were arrested under preventive measures, while 3870 vehicles were impounded during the drive.
During the crackdown on anti-social elements, 30 robbers and 11 snatchers have been arrested in last 3-4 days.
