New Delhi: With an aim to minimise parking woes in its areas, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday approved construction of four automated multilevel parking lots with capacity to accommodate 524 vehicles at one point of time. The Corporation said that the proposed move will cost R 73. 13 crore to its exchequer.
SDMC Standing Committee Chairman Bhupender Gupta said that the population and number of vehicles in Delhi is fast increasing resulting in severe parking problem. Apart from this the city is facing traffic congestion, air pollution, increasing road accidents, cases of road rage and daily struggle for the residents to park their vehicles and subsequent cases of fighting and violence.
"The Corporation has decided to solve this parking problems by constructing automated parking sites in four prominent markets having substantial foot fall. In number of meetings with L-G and representatives of Municipal Corporation, DDA, Traffic Police and Transport Department instructions were issued for the construction of new automated multi-level car parking in view of difficult parking problem. The sites for the new parking were selected on the basis of a survey conducted for this purpose," said Gupta.
He said that the Standing Committee has given its nod for construction of shuttle type automated car parking for 200 cars with an estimated cost of Rs 29. 58 crore at GK-I, M-Block market.
The committee also approved construction of tower type automated car parking for 180 cars with an estimated cost of Rs 24. 20 crore at GK-II, M-Block market. A tower type automated car parking for 72 cars will be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 9. 68 crore at Malviya Nagar.
The Standing Committee has also given its nod for construction of tower type automated car parking for 72 cars with an estimated cost of Rs 9.68 crore at SDA market.
