New Delhi: SDMC calls upon citizens to adopt simple measures for prevention and control of vector mosquito breeding and requested to make such measures a habit. "Vector mosquitoes breed only due to our carelessness", said SDMC Standing Committee Chairman Shika Rai.

She stated that the burden of Dengue is rising globally at an alarming rate due to increased use of plastic disposables, improper solid waste management and lack of regular water supply which results in people storing water in all type of containers.

Rai while addressing a mega camp of RWAs at Greater Kailash said that during monsoon and post-monsoon, mosquito breeding raises many folds due to water collection in solid waste and waste materials laid in open areas.

A mega camp attended by a dozen councilors and hundreds of RWA office bearers was organized by Public Health Department of South zone of SDMC for Resident Welfare Associations of Greater Kailash 1 ward.

Rai enlightened all the participants about the different measures initiated by SDMC in regard to prevention and control of vector-borne diseases. She highlighted the innovative concept of Mosquito terminator Train, a recently launched collaborative project of SDMC and Indian Railways.
