School students set to get masks from November 1

New Delhi: The Delhi government schools, government-aided, and private schools will start distributing masks from November 1. The masks will reach all the schools by Wednesday. Every student and their family members will receive a pack of mask from their respective schools. The AAP-led government through the Student Management Committee (SMC) also plans to start various activities to sensitize government schools students on the issue of pollution.

Senior AAP-leader Atishi said, "Masks will be distributed through government, government-aided, and private schools from Wednesday. Schools were shut past few days and it will reopen on Wednesday and by then masks would have reached all the schools — ready for distribution from November 1 — and on a large scale masks will begin to reach families."

"Not just schools but hospitals and Mohalla Clinics will also give out masks for those who do not have school going children at home," she added.

Along with masks to combat air pollution various activities like street plays, songs, and also interaction with experts will be conducted from Wednesday for the students to make them aware of the ill effects of air pollution.The SMCs which include parents social activists and teachers will take the lead in the process, said an official.

A senior government official said, "We believe that pollution is a health emergency issue and it is our duty to apprise the students regarding the same. That's why the Delhi government is taking this decision to sensitize the students regarding the effect of air-pollution".
