New Delhi: The security cover of Sarojini Nagar market has been enhanced by Delhi Police as they are now monitoring the activities inside the market through the centralised control room.
With the help of public, the law enforcement agency has also installed 97 cameras at the strategic locations.
In between 2:30 to 3 pm on Tuesday, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), through newly installed centralised public announcement (PA) system, was checking the alertness of staff from the control room.
In a LED TV which had excess to 32 CCTV cameras, every movement was being checked.
"Raise your hand who is deployed in gate number 3," said ASI through the PA system and on the TV, it was seen that the police staff who was deployed at the location raised his hands. According to police, during police week in February, they started the kiosk which later turned as a control room.
"Through the CCTV cameras and PA system, we can easily check any suspicious movements. If some bag or vehicle lying for a long time, we alert staffs to check it," said the official adding that sometimes it also helps us to clear traffic snarls.
The official further said that 32 cameras are installed at strategic locations in the market covering important roads.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Devender Arya told Millennium Post that new cameras were installed covering all entries and critical points in the markets.
"The security of the Sarojini Nagar market is one of our top priority. The entry and exits of the market is being continuously scanned by police personnel and Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD) are also installed for checking. There are proper morchas in the market," said DCP Arya adding that 97 cameras were installed with the help of public participation.
He further said that they are enhancing security. Apart from installing CCTVs, police presence also been increased in the market.
According to an officer, after the installation of CCTVs, many cases of thefts have been solved through footages.
"In many cases through footages, we have recovered missing items of people who visit the market," added officer.
The Station House Officer (Sarojini Nagar) Maninder Singh regularly take rounds of the market to check the security system. Police said that they also reunited children with their families through CCTVs and PA system.
"A girl lost her bag containing important documents after scanning the footages, her bag was recovered and given to her by woman police personnel Nisha," said the official.
In many entry-exit gates, women police personnel were found. To save them from the scorching heat, a hut shaped object has been installed in Morchas.
