New Delhi: SDMC Mayor Narendra Chawla has directed the DEMS (Department of Environment Maintenance Services) to ensure cleanliness at all the public places, religious places, markets, Dussehra grounds, Ramlila grounds and other important places for gatherings during this festive season. He has also underlined the need of keeping all these places neat and clean by cleaning and managing the expected high quantity of garbage during festivities.

The DEMS department has been asked to organise special sanitation drives during festival days at religious and market places as large number of citizens and devotees will visit these places to celebrate the festivals and exchange good wishes. Further, the markets will remain crowded with the purchasers of gifts and sweets and during these days it is generally seen that a large quantity of used crackers, sweet boxes, wrappers, packing materials, balloons, flowers and left-over eatables pile up at different places presenting a bad picture.

Chawla has asked the department to depute sanitation staff for night sweeping, ensure cleaning of street bins, dhalaos at least twice in a day apart from the collection of waste from the homes and shops and transportation.
