Gurugram: After repeated complaints, the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) may handover the maintenance of certain private colonies to its Resident Welfare Associations. These colonies include the Ardee City, Sushant Lok-II and III and certain societies located at the Sohna Road. For a long period, the residents of these societies have been complaining about how services like security, roads, horticulture, and lighting are being compromised by the builders to cut the costs.
Most of the residents also claim that the problem persists despite paying the high maintenance fees. Most builders charge an exorbitant amount of maintenance fee from the homeowners.
In most cases, the maintenance fee amounts to one or two per cent of the total cost of which the flat is purchased. This means that if the flat is purchased at an average price of two crore rupees in Gurugram, the buyer have to shell out a maintenance fee of twenty lakhs. It is also being claimed that despite paying the high maintenance and administration fee, they are not being provided with adequate services and are being fleeced by the developers. There are an estimated 30,000 families that have already expressed their grievances in this regard across various social media platforms and have been pursuing the matter for more than a year.
With the Chief Minister now taking cognisance, homeowners hope that there will be an improvement in the prevailing situation. "The fact the developers, both old and new, are fleecing homeowners by charging exorbitant fee is not a new phenomenon in Gurugram. It is surprising that despite a large number of people affected, no action has been taken. With the CM being involved, we hope that a strict stance against the errant builders will be taken soon," said Dinesh Narang, one of the aggrieved homeowners.
