Romanian card cloner arrested from S Delhi

New Delhi: A 40-year-old Romanian card cloner was arrested from MB road, police said on Friday. The police during investigation revealed that the accused with the help of skimming device targeted unmanned ATMs.

Police identified the accused as Lupoi Emil, native of Constanta in Romania. "Cyber Cell South District has prevented compromising of various ATM cards users' ATM data and thereafter unauthorised withdrawal of their harden earned money from Bank ATMs by card cloner cheats, " said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Vijay Kumar.

He stated that on March 27 police officials apprehended Romanian national red handed from Yes Bank ATM, Saidulajab, MB Road. He was trying to implant card cloning/skimming devise at the said ATM.

DCP Kumar said that Emil is mechanic and driver by profession. He used to visit India for earning money through committing cheating and cyber crime for his and his family luxury livelihood. "He has visited India thrice including this time. This time he had come to India on multiple visitor visa in the second week of March 2019 along with his associate. But he was arrested this time before he would have succeeded in cloning cards and cheating Indian currency, " said Kumar.

Police claimed that during interrogation it revealed that the accused person Lupoi Emil had come to India on multiple visitor visa in the second week of March 2019 along with his associate, for the purpose of making clones of ATM cards used in India by installing skimming devices at lonely and unguarded Bank ATMs in Delhi and thereafter making clones of genuine ATM cards of different banks having actual PIN number of that particular card also and to withdraw amount unauthorizedly from different unguarded ATMs and hence robbing Indian currency for their luxury. They were staying at Green Park, New Delhi but his associate had left the place before the police reached. Efforts are on to trace him.
