New Delhi: Delhi was still reeling with the aftermath of riots when it was struck by Coronavirus pandemic, leaving many anxious. While many rush to the hospital to get checked, numerous families are exposed and living in open spaces since their houses were burnt down.

Many families in north-east Delhi have been rehabilitated back to their homes, while the number of injured are now trying to recover from the past. 14-year-old Faizan, who was hit by a bullet in his lower back, has been advised to be on bed rest for about a month. A shy boy, Faizan is now trying to get past the trauma of those days. His family includes his grandmother and aunt, who sit beside him all day long.

"We are thankful that he is okay. We don't know what might have happened to him," she said still shuddering from the horrors of that day.

Meanwhile, a few families at Mustafabad's Eid Gah have been rehabilitated back to their homes. Still shocked and fearful, the families are trying to move on. Sabir Khan (name changed), who lives

in Shiv Vihar has shifted back to his house, which was vandalized.

With the help of state government's initiative and many civil organisations, the house was repaired. Many families have expressed satisfaction with the relief work

started by the state machineries. "If only this sort of help had come before the riots happened, things would have been completely different," said Khan.

People are still picking up the pieces broken by the Delhi riots, and while many have gone back, numerous families wait for their homes to be rebuilt.

The death toll in Delhi violence stands at 53, where 44 are said to have died at GTB

Hospital, five at RML Hospital, three at LNJP Hospital and one at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital.
