GURUGRAM: In a display of perfect self-discipline, residents of Gurugram did not step out, making 'Janta Curfew' a huge success. Areas usually filled with people on Sunday wore a deserted look as all the commercial activities remained suspended.
Nowhere was this more visible than Sadar Bazaar, which is the oldest and largest commercial area in the city. On a normal day, a citizen would not even find a space for walking in certain stretches. On Sunday, the streets of Sadar Bazaar witnessed a sharp decline in number of visitors as traders decided to down their shutters and suspend their businesses.
Being a commercial area that is known for its eateries, clothing stores and jeweler shops, it will be a challenge for trader as the Haryana government announced a complete
lockdown in Gurugram till March 31.
Not only Old Gurugram but even in New Gurugram the citizens decided to be indoors. The Delhi-Jaipur Expressway, which on a daily basis sees a movement of over eight lakh vehicles had only a handful of vehicles.
Less traffic movement was also seen near Cyber Greens, the area which houses hundreds of offices, Golf Course Road, Golf Course extension road, Sohna road and Old Delhi road.
At around 5:00 p.m. a large number of citizens, irrespective of their social status came out and expressed thanks by clapping and beating utensils.
Overwhelmed by the reaction, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar addressed the citizens and urged them to extend the curfew till Monday 7 am.
