Reprieve for Badarpur power plant, will function till Oct

NEW DELHI: Delhi's oldest thermal-based power station in Badarpur got a major relief after the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) offered it a four month extension of consent for operations, a notification for which was issued on Wednesday.

"As decided by the DPCC chairman, renewal is hereby extend to Badarpur thermal sower station up to October 15," said the notification.

The Supreme Court monitory Committee Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) had earlier permitted operation of the station only till July 15.

The Badarpur station was closed off from October 17, 2017 to March 15 this year.

The unit, which generates 320 MW unit of power, restarted on April 15 and currently contributes to Delhi's power requirement, an official at the station said. The plant's chimney was ignited on Monday. A spokesperson of the station said that the Delhi government has issued a new schedule to start the plant.
