Gurugram: Even after various announcements by the Haryana Government, there is still no clarity that when Kherki Dhaula toll plaza will be shifted to a new location. In a news that can further raise the temper of various commuters using the toll plaza, there has been an increase in rates which is directly going to affect the daily commuters. Even though the authorities have made no changes in the day to day rates, there has been an increase in the rates of the passes.
For four-wheelers the rate of passes that used to be earlier Rs 710 is now Rs 735, rates for commercial vehicles have increased from Rs 935 to Rs 970. There has also been a steep increase for light motor vehicles where rates of passes have increased from Rs 1375 to Rs 1430 and for heavy vehicles, the rates have increased from Rs 2800 to Rs 2910.
The new rates will be applicable from April 1. The day to day one-way rates for passenger vehicles is Rs 65, light commercial vehicles are Rs 95 and heavy commercial vehicles are shelling out Rs 195 one way. More than two lakh vehicles pass through the Kherki Daula toll plaza and about 70,000 vehicles pay the toll daily. Most of the commuters have been constantly demanding for the removal of the toll.
"There have been a lot of controversies around the Kherki Daula toll plaza. Ever since it has been made functional, the commuters as well as the industrial bodies, have expressed their resentment against the Kherki Daula toll plaza. As there has been massive growth around the Kherki Daula area with the development of new residential and industrial sectors, it led to heavy traffic around the area," said Vaibhav Chawla, a city resident.
"Most of the commuters and industrial bodies complained that the presence of toll was the main reason for increased traffic congestion at the area," he added.
While the 65-acre area of Sehrawan had been earmarked, the officials of National Highway Authority Limited (NHAI) are now hopeful over the new location. It has come to notice that the new location forms a vital part of the green belt area of Aravallis.
