NOIDA: A 27-year-old pregnant woman was crushed to death after being hit by a speeding car in Noida's Sector 18 Sunday night.
Police said that the offending car was being driven by a minor parking attendant, who was pulling the car out of the parking lot.
The incident occurred around 9pm, when the victim Mansi Singhal had gone out with her husband Prateek for shopping. The couple was crushed by the speeding car while they were passing by.
Doctors said that the woman was seven to eight months pregnant.
"The woman and her husband were rushed to Kailash Hospital, where Mansi succumbed to injuries. Her husband's condition is critical and he is getting treatment at the hospital," Swetabh Pandey, circle officer (traffic), told reporters.
According to an eyewitness, the 16-year-old parking attendant was parking a while Honda City car at a high speed and lost his control over the vehicle, hitting the couple and some other vehicles, before ultimately crashing into an electric pole.
"A case under charges of causing death by negligence, rash driving and endangering life of others has been registered against the accused driver Avinash. He has been arrested and the vehicle has been seized," said Anil Kumar Shahi, station house officer, Sector-20 police station.
The couple were residents of J M Aroma apartments in Sector 75. Prateek works with a media company in Noida's Film City.
Family members of the victims have demanded strict actions against the parking contractor and the accused driver.
