Rape convict who jumped parole arrested

New Delhi: A rape convict who jumped parole has been arrested by police in Southeast district. During exile, convict stayed as a beggar in Old Delhi, police said. 

The rape convict Kanhaiya, (36) was granted 6 weeks parole for kidney operation but after completion of 6 weeks, he didn't surrender on the scheduled date and was evading the arrest.

Accused was previously arrested in 21 cases of dacoity, rape, arms act. In order to keep a vigil on the movement of the accused, his history sheet was opened by Okhla police station Industrial Area. In 2014, accused Kanhiya was arrested in a rape case. Accused was convicted for seven years imprisonment and was lodged at Mandoli Jail, said DCP Chinmoy Biswal.

Due to medical issues, accused Kanhaiya was granted six weeks of parole for a kidney operation. Thereafter, accused was released from the jail on March 26, this year and was scheduled to surrender before the jail authorities on May 6. But accused didn't turn up on the scheduled date and fled, he said.

Thereafter, the High Court of Delhi issued a Non-Bailable Warrant against the accused and a cash reward of Rs. 5,000 was declared arrest of the convict, DCP said.
