Rape case: Self-styled godman Ashu Maharaj detained

New Delhi: Delhi Police detained the self-styled godman Ashu Maharaj from Shahdara area in connection with a rape case. A woman had alleged that Ashu Maharaj raped her and her minor daughter at his ashram in the national Capital. The alleged godman was nabbed by Shahdara district police team who handed over him to Crime Branch of Delhi Police where he is been questioned. The woman claimed she was raped by self-styled godman Ashu Maharaj from 2008 to 2013 by his friends and his son, they said. She alleged he even asked her to bring her minor daughter to him and raped her, the police said. The woman in her complaint told the police that it was not just the Godman but also her son who sexually exploited her and later on asked her to bring her daughter as well.

The woman told the police she had gone to wish him Diwali at the Rohini Ashram when he along with his associate sexually assaulted her. Ashu's manager Ravi Shankar gave her water laced with sedatives following which she lost consciousness. When she woke up she told the accused that she would narrate her ordeal to everyone but the accused told her that he would eliminate her entire family.
