New Delhi: South Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Narendra Chawla on Tuesday took a round of Sangam Vihar, the Capital's largest unauthorised colony, to assess the status of cleanliness, sanitation and living conditions of residents in the colony.
He also interacted with local residents to know about the difficulties they face.
During the visit, Chawla focused on a road from Mangal Bazar to Ratia Marg.
The densely populated Sangam Vihar is staring at a flooding crisis, as its lanes are inundated with filthy water pouring out of poorly-designed storm drains on both sides of the road built on higher level.
Drains in the colony are constructed and maintained by the DSIIDC.
The Mayor also expressed surprise over haphazard construction work by DSIIDC, which put residents in trouble.
He added that the condition is pitiable and residents of the area are facing hard time, and could cause an outbreak of vector-borne diseases in the locality, inhabited by poor and lower middle-class families.
"Faulty designing and construction of storm drains is creating obstacles for sanitation employees in keeping the area garbage-free," he added.
