Quick thinking by BSF personnel helps nab duo of ATM thieves in Sangam Vihar

New Delhi: Trying to cheat a personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) ended up being the undoing of two youth from Sangam Vihar, who were arrested on Sunday for trying to rob an ATM machine.

Delhi Police on Monday said that the accused had tried to tamper an ATM machine in Sangam Vihar, but the wits of the BSF personnel S Murghen led to the busting of the gang, involved in several incidents of the same kind.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Vijay Kumar claimed that on Sunday, a team from Sangam Vihar police team arrested the two menb, identified as Aniket (23) and Gulshan (22), who lives within the jurisdiction of the police station.

Seven ATM cards and cash amounting to Rs 10,000 has been recovered from them.

Police said that based on the complaint filed by Murghen, a case under sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code was registered.

The complainant told cops that while he was withdrawing money from the same ATM, the accused youth also entered.

One of them put his hand on one of the ATM's button, due to which the transaction hanged.

The complainant again tried to take out some money, but could not and left the ATM.

Within moments, the complainant received a message on his phone about the transaction of Rs 10,000 being debited.

He became suspicious about the accused persons and when he confronted them, the two tried to escape from there on bike.

However, Murghen caught hold of the two youth and called out for help, after the passersby overpowered the culprits.

"During interrogation the accused person admitted to their involvement in many ATM card thefts from various places and their misuse in drawing cash from ATMs," added the DCP.
