New Delhi: The main suspect in 25-year-old doctor's murder, who was found dead with multiple stab wounds and her throat slit, was arrested from Uttarakhand's Roorkee on Friday.
Police said that the accused Chandra Prakash Verma tried to commit suicide when he was arrested near Gang Nahar in Roorkee. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Dr G Ram Gopal Naik said that the accused committed the murder due to his over possessiveness behaviour and one-sided love.
"On April 30, he went to her room and asked her for the change of her attitude towards him and that resulted in a heated argument between them," said DCP.
This led to a scuffle between them and the accused strangulated the deceased, who was already fainted. The accused then brutally slit the throat of the deceased and fled away from there.
Police said that later the accused reached Rishikesh where he was desperately trying to commit suicide.
"He made many attempts to commit suicide, but he could not do so due to the fear that if he would survive, then he would be left with permanent disability and it would further ruin the future of his family/parents," police said.
DCP (Crime) further said that Verma revealed that he was residing in a rented flat at Ranjit Nagar on sharing basis with another flatmate Rakesh Yadav. In the hospital, the deceased who was also a junior resident doctor asked him to help her in getting accommodation.
The investigating agency further said that he offered one room of his rented flat to her so that she could get accommodation at a cheaper price.
Then, she shifted in a room of the rented flat of the accused while the accused and his friend shifted themselves in the other room of the flat. This made him feel that the lady doctor was attracted towards him.
Meanwhile the deceased left the job and started preparing for MD and started spending more time on her studies. This made the accused irritated and he started thinking that the deceased was avoiding him.
One day, he offered her to accompany him to watch movie, but she refused. This made their relation bitter.
