New Delhi: After getting pickpocketed in the railway stations, passengers are in a dilemma whether they should go to the police station to report the crime or catch the train. To address the problem, the Delhi Police will soon put a box where the passengers can put their grievances in a paper with the name and the contact details and the city police will get in touch with them to know the problem they faced.
Police sources told the Millennium Post that the newly-formed Transport Range of Delhi Police will start their pilot project at two railway stations –New Delhi and Nizamuddin.
"Joint Commissioner of Police (Transport) Atul Katiyar has regularly visited the two railway stations of Delhi and in one such occasion he visited the stations at late night hours to check the condition of security at the railway station and the response of its staff," said the police officer.
The Joint CP also held meetings with the SHOs of Delhi Police (Railway) where they told him to make sure that only passengers and family members of the passengers should stay in the railway station and no unwanted person should stay there. The move can help in the deterrence of crime.
The SHOs were also told by the Joint CP that they should put a box on the premises of the railway station where the passenger can put their grievance and they will be contacted by the police. "Many of the passengers hesitate to report crime so the box will help them in the reporting crime," said a police officer. The SHOs were told to put a proper board displaying the location and the contact numbers of the senior police officials at the nearby railway station. "During the visit, the senior officer told the police personnel the visibility of signboard is important so that the victim can reach the police station," police said.
The pilot project will be monitored at two stations and after their success, it will be implemented at other railway stations. A transport range was recently created in Delhi Police.
The law enforcement agency informed that the reason behind making the range was to make sure there is zero tolerance for crime. Delhi Metro Police, Delhi Railways Police and IGI Police will come under the transport range.
