Police arrest five thieves who targetted marriage functions

New Delhi: A gang of five men, who moved on motorcycles to check out the weddings in their areas and robbed money from the guests, were arrested from North East Delhi. The accused were identified as Rahul (22), Shadab (22), Deepak (22), Umesh (23) and Murtaza (19).  
The activity of the gang came to light when the police got a complaint in the intervening night of May 15-16. The complainant said that he was sitting in a bus and was busy in inviting his guests through a mobile phone for his son's marriage. Suddenly, one unknown person snatched his bag containing cash and jewellery items and ran away.
In another incident, the complainant stated that on May 8, the wedding party of his brother-in-law was assembled at Mandoli Jail road, Harsh Vihar. The bag containing cash and jewellery was kept with him. When the wedding procession reached in front of Shiva Vatika (venue), suddenly the electricity went off. In the meantime, two persons came and snatched his bag containing cash and jewellery.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Atul Kumar Thakur stated that two of the accused were arrested earlier and from their instance, other accused were arrested. They all were drug addicts and wanted to live a luxurious life. Hence, they used to commit snatchings and robberies to support their lifestyle. "In the marriage function, they used to target people who carrying the bag containing money and jewellery. They snatched or stole their bags and fled on their vehicles which they parked at strategic locations," said a police official.
