Gurugram: To express their anger and demanding action against real estate developer Unitech, more than 500 homebuyers in Gurugram took to the streets on Sunday as they have been denied possession of their home for more than seven years.

As has been the case during previous protest, the angry homebuyers maintained that even after paying the full amount for their homes, the builder has not started construction at the project's site.

The protestors said that no action has been taken by the state government against the builder, which has reportedly duped homebuyers of crores of rupees.

Between 2010 and 2011, the protesting homebuyers had invested in the Unitech project 'Enithea' in Sector-70 at Golf Course extension road.

However, as has been the case in many of Unitech's projects, even this project failed to kick-off. As per an agreement between Unitech and the buyers, the flats were to be delivered in 2012. Despite financial troubles plaguing it, the developer gave repeated assurances to the buyers, but none were fulfilled.

Enithea is among many projects of the builder that have seen agitations and protests by homebuyers over non-delivery or overcharging.

Last year, the Apex Court directed Unitech to pay the amount of the litigation costs within four weeks to buyers of the Vistas project, who had succeeded before the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) in getting their principal amount and interest.

The flats in Vistas were booked in 2009, but after Unitech failed to deliver the flat on time, these buyers had in 2014 moved NCDRC. The Commission ordered Unitech to pay the principal to the buyers, along with an interest of 18 per cent.
