Over 1K criminals to be declared history-sheeters

New Delhi: As many as 1,188 criminals will now be made as history-sheeters as Delhi Police has initiated proposal regarding the opening of new history sheets.

Police sources said that as many as 9,754 history sheets are on record.

Sources told that in recently held crime review meeting headed by Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik at Delhi Police headquarters discussion was made history sheets status.

A data accessed by Millennium Post revealed that as many as 800 history sheets are already opened up to 2019 whereas last year, it was nearly 500.

Data further revealed that as many as 20 proposals have been initiated for action under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

As many as 244 proposals initiated by Shahdara district for opening new history sheets. The outer district proposed 174 new history sheets opening.

According to the senior police officer, history sheet can be opened against those involved in crime habitually.

The officer further added that the reason behind opening a history sheet is to keep surveillance on the criminal and also to maintain peace and tranquillity. It helps the police to track criminals and keep them under control.

The data further revealed that 106 proposals were initiated by South district for opening new history sheets whereas 113 proposals made by South East Delhi and 112 by Outer North district.

According to Delhi Police annual report, as many as 2,36,476 IPC cases have been registered during last year as against 2,23,077 in 2017. Around 188 rewarded criminals were also arrested in 2018.

In past meetings, the police chief had directed district DCsP should analyze the crime trends within their respective districts and take corrective measures.

During the meeting, the CP told other officers that beat officers should be tasked to collect criminal intelligence and share information with the SHOs. In case of failure, strict accountability be fixed.

Police chief further told officers that district DCsP should call the explanation of SHOs who have consistently failed to maintain surveillance over bad elements in their areas.

Annual report further added that last year multi-pronged strategies were adopted to control crime which includes identification of active criminals, preparation of the compendium of top criminals and its regular updating.
