New Delhi: Over 1,200 parents and students took part on the first day of Open Day session organised by Delhi University, for clearing doubts regarding various courses, colleges and admission process.
After a presentation by the University officials, participants went on to ask questions about new and existing courses.
"The crowd was expected and there were over 1,200 parents and students," Deputy Dean of Students Welfare Gurpreet Singh Tuteja said. "With today's session, the Open Days initiative turned 15 years old," he added.
"I had some question about calculating the best of four for admission to BSc (lifescience). I have not yet registered because I wanted to get answers to my queries first" said Rohitash Pal, an applicant who has from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh and is living with a cousin in Delhi.
Like Pal, there were many students who had queries on the certificates required for admission under the extracurricular activities (ECA) category.
"I had received a number of certificates in extracurricular activities and the online admission page allows only one certificate. Confusion has erupted now," Tavleen Sethi, another student applicant said.
To this problem, one of the speakers at the session replied, "Upload the national certificate if you have one, otherwise upload whichever hold a higher value."
"Any student can withdraw admission from a college and then take admission in another college and your fees will be adjusted automatically. But you will have to give an application for admission withdrawal and your certificates will be given back. But it will take some time for the fees to be refunded to you," the speaker further saidl.
Some students also wanted to know if they could change their college or subject after getting admission in a college.
The University will hold the sessions till May 29 (except Sunday) at the Conference Centre near Gate Number 4 on the North Campus in two shitfs - 10 am to 11.30 am and 12 noon to 1.30 pm.
Meanwhile, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad set up help desk of their own near the Arts Faculty, while the National Students Union of India and the All India Students Association said their desks will be open from Tuesday, near the Arts Faculty and the Vishwavidyalaya Metro station.
"Our volunteers will be working at college level too to educate parents and students about the entire process," NSUI said.
