Gurugram: The year 2018 is not proving to be an easy one for law enforcement officials of Gurugram. The city has already registered more than 23 murders in four months. In what can prove to be an even greater challenge is that over 25 percent of these cases remain untraced where the crime has been registered against unidentified criminals. The South district leads the number of killings with over 17 murders, followed by West (3) and East (4) districts.
The trends witnessed in the murders have also been nothing less than dramatic. Killings emanating out of inter-gang rivalries and business fallout are still prevalent. There have also been incidents of loss of life because of domestic troubles. In one such gruesome case, a husband who was an engineer, murdered his wife in front of their two-year-old daughter. There was one more incident reported in April where a husband murdered his wife just because he was angry over her excessive use of social media.
What is proving to be a problem for Gurugram police is that along with murders due to alleged gang rivalries, many burglars have also begun to kill their victims during a failed robbery attempt. In the wee hours of April 23, a truck driver was gunned down by assailants. The main reason for his murder is cited to be a failed robbery attempt. His killers have still not been identified and are at large. This incident follows just days after two women and a man from the same family were murdered brutally with their throats slit. Their bodies were recovered in the forest of Aravallis. This case has not been cracked yet by the district police. There was also a mutilated body of woman found near Hero Chowk and the police has still not found her killers.
According to senior officials of Gurugram police, most of the killings are being carried out by people who are not from Gurugram that adds to the challenge. Mostly people from Mewat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are chosen to carry out shooting incidents to eliminate the rivals.
The incident of shooting on the busy streets of Gurugram is not a new phenomenon. In a worrying trend, the brazen incidents are not only reported from the outskirts of the city but even in densely populated areas of MG road, Sohna road, Jharsa road and Sector-9 A. In the past, dreaded gangsters, gangster's spouse, realtors, former journalist have been eliminated by their rivals through criminal acts.
On February 11 in a shooting, a person named Sanjay Gujjar lost his life after being shot 17 times in Bilaspur. To curb this problem, the Gurgram police has been trying to develop a strong coordination network with their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and other districts of Haryana.
