Notorious criminal Kala Bandar nabbed

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has arrested a notorious criminal after a dramatic exchange of gunfire in the south west Delhi’s Kapashera area.

An anonymous source tipped the Delhi Police about the criminal.

The accused has been identified as Vipin alias Kala Bandar (22) resident of son of Late Ravinder resident of Harijan Chaupal, Kapashera, Delhi.

According to the police, the accused was involved in multiple cases of snatching, theft, and illegal firearms, was apprehended near Nala Road toward Salapur Khera after firing at police officers during a chase. Vipin, also wanted in a snatching case registered at Vasant Kunj Police Station, fired two shots at the pursuing officers. One bullet struck the bulletproof jacket of HC Deepak, saving his life.

In response, the police team fired three defensive rounds, one of which hit the accused in the leg. Vipin was subsequently overpowered and taken into custody. A .32 bore pistol, three live cartridges, and two spent cartridges were recovered from Vipin’s possession. He is currently undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.

To curb rising incidents of street crime in Kapashera, the local police had increased patrolling and deployed informants to track known offenders.

Acting on a tip-off about Vipin’s whereabouts, a team led by Inspector Naveen Kumar, SHO Kapashera, and supervised by ACP Satyajeet Sareen, set up a trap near FIMT College.

Vipin, a criminal with a history of snatching and theft, attempted to flee and fired at police during his arrest. Officers responded with controlled fire, injuring him. He was arrested and taken for treatment. A case under the Arms Act has been filed, and investigations into his criminal network are ongoing.
