New Delhi: In a comprehensive review of urban infrastructure in Dwarka, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday assessed major projects undertaken by the Delhi Development Authority, emphasising the need to develop “global-standard civic infrastructure” across the sub-city.

Accompanied by senior officials, including DDA Vice-Chairman N. Saravana Kumar, the Lt Governor visited key sites such as Storm Water Channels No. 2 and 5, the Golf Course in Sector-24, and a proposed five-star hotel project in Sector-23. The review focused on evaluating the quality, long-term utility, and public impact of these projects.

Highlighting Dwarka’s strategic location, Sandhu noted its proximity to the Indira Gandhi International Airport and connectivity through the Urban Extension Road-II, positioning it as a potential hub for international conventions, exhibitions, and corporate engagements. He also stressed the importance of leveraging infrastructure such as the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre and upcoming recreational spaces to attract global stakeholders. The Lt Governor called for a time-bound roadmap to transform Dwarka into a centre for multinational events, urging authorities to engage with global corporations, embassies, and institutions. He underscored the role of such initiatives in boosting economic activity while enhancing the city’s global profile.

Among the projects reviewed, the redevelopment of storm water channels stood out as a model of urban rejuvenation. The initiative integrates drainage infrastructure with green corridors, featuring cycling tracks, walkways, and public spaces, alongside improved sewage treatment systems.

Sandhu also reviewed plans for an IT and IT-enabled services hub in Sector-26 and assessed the potential of the convention centre for hosting large-scale events. The visit concluded with an inspection of the Dwarka Golf Course, envisioned as an international-standard sporting facility.

Reiterating a vision of sustainable and inclusive development, the Lt Governor directed the DDA to prioritise projects that enhance ease of living through improved mobility, green infrastructure, and modern civic amenities.
