No additional charges for Dwarka residents with borewells: DJB

Update: 2018-02-01 18:15 GMT
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Jal Board on Thursday decided to waive of additional sewer charges for residents of Dwarka in west Delhi.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who also serves as chairman of DJB, recently visited the area and met with local residents over the issue, and subsequently asked the Board to look into the matter.
Many residents of Dwarka have had borewells installed, due to paucity of water and thus are supposed to pay additional sewer charges, after DJB took over Dwarka from the Delhi Development Authority in 2015.
During his visit, Kejriwal promised the residents to get the arrears, on account of additional sewer charges, waived.
The Board, on Thursday, approved the waiver of all the arrears in Dwarka.
Meanwhile, a DJB official said, "To do away with the constant problem of ammonia mixing in raw water supply, the Board approved two important decisions. An additional 2,400 mm line for raw water mains from Delhi sub-branch near Haiderpur WTP would be laid, in order to reduce dependency on the Yamuna for raw water. The raw water from the Yamuna often is contaminated with ammonia and disturbs the water supply in several areas of Delhi."
To augment and rationalise the water supply distribution system, the Board approved construction of two underground reservoirs, or booster pumping stations, of 9.1 million litres and 5.8 ML capacity at village Bijwasan and Rajokri, respectively, which will be fed through the extension of feeder main network of CT-6.
Currently, both Bijwasan and Rajokari command areas are being fed water through tube wells, as well as through tankers.
No potable water supply currently exists in these urban villages, situated in south west Delhi.
"Administrative approval was accorded for deployment of specially fabricated or tailor-made, 200 sewer cleaning machines for cleaning of sewer lines in narrow streets or lanes in Delhi for seven years," said the DJB official.
