New Delhi: South Delhi Municipal Corporation has made functional two units each of 'Mokshda' green cremation system at Green Park and Dwarka Sector 24.

SDMC Mayor Narendra Chawla exhorted bereaved families to use this new facility as it would help in containing pollution substantially, take less time for cremation and consume only around 150 kg wood instead of 450 kg wood as used in the traditional system

Under the 'Mokshda' system, the need of wood is still required, hence it is similar to the traditional cremation.

In the Mokshda system, the last rites are performed by igniting the funeral pyre using a machine.

Chawla also stated that the Mokshda green cremation system has been installed and commissioned with the help of ONGC.

The SDMC staff is operating the new system though ONGC has been requested to deploy at least one of its employees daily to make the new system smooth.
