New Delhi: Delhi Police on Monday said they arrested a 45-year-old man from north east Delhi, who was accused of molesting the minor girl on Sunday night.
Police said that the accused took the girl to the terrace of her house and molested her.
They added that the incident came to light after a PCR call was received about the incident.
Personnel from Welcome police station immediately reached the spot and started investigation, during which they came to know that the accused lives in the same locality as the six-year-old girl.
When he found that the girl was alone at her house, he decided to exploit the chance.. "We have arrested the accused in the case," police said.
He had also roughed up the girl and threatened her with dire consequences. However, her screams for help were noticed by a passerby, who ran to the spot to help her.
Police said that the man, who lives with his family, is reportedly an alcoholic and works at a factory.
A case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act was registered at Welcome police station and investigation has been started.
Police said that the girl was taken to a hospital for medical treatment and made to consult a counsellor as well.
Earlier this month, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by an alcoholic man in east Delhi's New Ashok Nagar area.
Police said that they had solved the case in less than 24 hours, and arrested the predator from east Delhi area.
Data accessed by Millennium Post claimed that this year, till August 15, over 100 cases under POCSO Act were registered in the city, of which cops have solved 84 cases and arrested 86 persons.
