NCB seizes 60 kg of heroin, three nabbed

NEW DELHI: The Narcotics Control Bureau, Jammu zone seized nearly 22 kilograms of fine quality heroin from a Santro Car on September 2. The seizure has been made from Jammu and three persons have been arrested in this regard. Later on September 5, the NCB also seized approximately 38 kgs of heroin from the house of another arrested person in the area of Handwara (Kashmir).

During the interrogations, the three arrested persons revealed that the drugs originated from Handwara and was destined for Jalandhar (Punjab). The NCB conducted back to back operations in Jammu, Punjab and Kashmir.

After the information revealed by the accused, the NCB conducted a follow-up raid in Jalandhar on September 3. In this operation, one person was arrested. The investigation revealed that he was the receiver of the drugs. A vehicle was also seized from him along with cash Rs 17. 5 lakh. Officers said that the money was meant for the payment of the seized drugs. The NCB said that a total of 22.15 kilograms of heroin was seized from the arrested person. Interestingly the seized heroin was hidden in the boot of the car door where a cavity was made to dodge the checking squad. Unaccounted cash of Rs 5 lakh was also recovered during the house search of the accused the next day.

On September 5, pursuing the case further, NCB seized approximately 38 kgs of heroin from the house of another arrested person in the area of Handwara. The J&K cooperated the NCB in the action. "This is the biggest seizure of heroin this year by any agency in India," said SK Jha, Deputy Director-general (Operations) Narcotics Control Bureau.
