New Delhi: BJP councillor Narender Chawla was elected as Mayor while Satyapal Malik elected as Deputy Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Thursday. Additionally, Punam Bhati, Kamaljeet Sehrawat and AAP councillor Narender Kumar were elected as members of the Standing Committee.
Chawla, the councillor from ward number 15, Janakpuri West, said he would continue to work as per practice and high ethics established by Sehrawat, his predecessor.
Chawla said that his priorities will be swachhata, health, education, parking and water conservation, adding that cleanliness measures will be implemented effectively with more dedicated efforts and commitment. To enhanced public partnership awareness programme would also be initiated, Chawla said.
Describing parking a major problem, Chawla said that Delhi Development Authority will be requested to sanction land for construction of stack parking lots, on the basis of consultations with resident welfare associations and market associations.
"Serious efforts will be made to commission dispensaries in those wards which are lacking health facilities," the new Mayor added.
