New Delhi: Five men have been arrested for their alleged involvement in robbing a cash van and killing two custodians of the van in outer Delhi's Narela on April 26, Delhi Police said on Wednesday.
The arrests come a few days after a shootout, in which one of the accused was injured.
Cops recovered Rs 8.2 lakh looted by the accused and solved eight cases of robbery and murders with the arrests.
According to police, the first breakthrough in the case came on May 1, after Mahavir Singh (34), Deepak alias Mantra (32) and Gurucharan (35) were arrested from near Ganda Nala, Shahbad Road, of Rohini's Sector-26.
To nab the remaining accused, raids were conducted in Narela, which led to the arrest of Vikas.
The fifth accused, identified as Bharat Bhushan alias Tony (30), was nabbed Wednesday morning following a shootout with cops, during which he sustained bullet injuries on his leg.
"Accused Bharat Bhushan fired on the police team and one constable Rambir received gunshots on his bulletproof jacket. The police team also retaliated in self-defense and accused Bharat Bhushan sustained bullet injuries on his legs," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav said on Wednesday.
He added that on April 26, three bike riders and two others on foot, robbed Rs 12 lakh from the cash van, after shooting down the gunman and the cashier of the company in Narela. Both the employees, Rajnikant and Prem Kumar, succumbed to injuries.
In another case, the same accused had robbed a businessman of Rs 24 lakh, while he and his son, cashier and salesman were going to deposit the cash in the bank.
The accused persons shot indiscriminately at them and injured the driver, cashier and his son.
Later on, the businessman Pankaj Goyal and the cashier died of the injuries.
Bharat Bhushan was usually never identified and arrested, as he often used to commit robberies by covering his face with helmet.
