Motorcycle patrolling attended 52,234 calls, nabbed 456 criminals till March

New Delhi: The Delhi Police motorcycle patrolling staffs attended 52,234 calls of different nature in the first three months of new year. The motorcycle patrolling in the city led to the arrest of as many as 456 criminals.

Police sources told Millennium Post that in two districts, more than 7,000 calls each were attended whereas in three districts separately, the patrolling staffs went at the spot of 4,000 calls. In rest, other districts police personnel attended more than 23,000 calls related to different cases like snatching, quarrel, disputes.

The Delhi Police Commissioner, in recently held meeting, took the stock of the effective use of motorcycle patrols. He also reviewed their deployments, working hours, the number of personnel deployed, calls attended by them and arrest of criminals and recovery made by them.

More than 2,000 motorcycles are deployed all over the city including over 300 motorcycles deployed in permanent and temporary pickets.

The sources further said that 56 robbers, 66 snatchers, 42 pickpockets and 334 criminals involved in other crime were nabbed by the patrolling staffs.

As many as 23,826 liquior bottles, 75 firearms, 103 mobile/laptops, bags and other items recovered by the motorcycle patrolling staffs. Over 1900 police staffs are deployed for motorcycle patrolling on shift wise.

According to police, during different types of security arrangements, motorcycle patrolling plays an important role in maintaining safety across the city. "There are many instances when the motorcycle patrol caught criminals including snatchers," added police.

Last year, Delhi Police launched 300 'Raftaar' Motorcycle Patrols in the city. The key objective of the scheme is to ensure better visibility for the police combined with area dominance and effective patrolling, as also quicker response to distress calls in vulnerable and congested localities, with the particular focus on those relating to women's safety.

In November 2018, Delhi Police with the help of modified motorcycles caught two snatchers in West Delhi's Kirti Nagar area. In another case these motorbikes nabbed a 21-year-old dancer turned snatcher from South-East Delhi. In order to splurge on his girlfriends and to get easy money for his expenses, he started petty thefts and snatching in the area.
